Overview of Fund and Confidentiality of Gift Giving

Cops Fighting Cancer Fund

Fund Overview

The Cops Fighting Cancer (CFC) Fund (the Fund) provides one-time assistance to cancer patients and their families in crisis. A situation is considered a crisis on a case-by-case basis, but it is generally a single, unexpected, and unfortunate circumstance an individual is experiencing at a given point in their life. It is the hope of Cops Fighting Cancer (CFC) that through the Fund, we are able to support individuals facing difficult times in an immediate, personal and direct manner. The ultimate goal of the assistance is to help the person/family regain or remain self-sufficient.

In the best of circumstances, it is hoped that CFC Fund’s support would be a supplement and support to assist an overall and larger effort that is already being provided by a social service/medical agency or faith-based organization within the community. Monetary support is only one piece of the help people need in a time of crisis. We encourage all requests for assistance to seek out all resources within their community simultaneous to submitting a request to the Fund.Confidentiality of Gift Giving

Funding Areas

Our funding areas have become more specific to families that are battling cancer and we place an emphasis on families with children battling cancer. CFC will strive to bring more awareness to Childhood Cancer as it has become the number killer of children under 20 years of age.

Referral Process

CFC relies on a network of selected Referral Agencies to identify potential recipients. The primary CFC Referral Agencies are law enforcement organizations/officers that in the course of their duties and daily activities have impacted cancer victims in need. While a social service/medical agency or faith-based organizations within the community may refer individuals to CFC, the grant must be co-sponsored by a law enforcement officer or agency. Referral Agent/Agencies submit requests on behalf of the individual based on their due diligence of the individual’s circumstances and applicability to the Fund’s program funding areas.

Requests are submitted in person and via e-mail to the CFC website inbox, reviewed by the CFC Program Coordinator, approved by the President and CEO and by two members of the Approval Committee, and processed through CFC staffers. Pending approval, payment is usually sent to the Referral Agent within two to four days after receipt of the request. Request amounts vary but are up to a maximum of $1,000. The unique role of the Referral Agencies combined with the expedited speed of the process honors the CFC mission, vision and unique style of charitable giving to help those in our community who are most urgently in need.

Confidentiality of Gift Giving

CFC awards are by design a program that is intended to be out of public awareness whenever possible and appropriate. CFC conducts much of this type of emergency support anonymously and it is the intent of CFC to maintain the same degree of anonymity with its awards.  While CFC is in the public eye in its efforts to raise awareness and resources, the privacy and dignity of all grant requests and awards will be protected unless and until other arrangements warrant a more public posture. Therefore, the existence of the Fund is generally kept between CFC, our Referral Agency Partners, and the individual recipients of CFC support.
