How CFC got Started with this Miracle Girl. (From Tammi Roberts) My daughter, Brianna was diagnosed with a rare soft tissue cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma in September of 2000, at the young age of 9 months. The doctors performed surgery to remove the tumors and she was treated for one year with the standard chemotherapy agents and was in remission for a little over a year. Then in 2003, when she was 3 yrs. old, her cancer recurred. At that time, she was given another kind of chemotherapy which was shown to be “promising” for this type of cancer. During that treatment, her tumor grew to be the size of a lemon inside her small abdomen. Brianna was now given only a few months to live, and was baptized during her hospital stay. She then underwent another radical surgery to remove many of her organs that the cancer was invading. Following that surgery, she was treated 5 days a week for 6 weeks with radiation. Brianna still needed to be treated with more chemotherapy but options were limited at this point and the only one available was an experimental chemotherapy. I knew Brianna was a fighter and was not going to give up so we decided to try the unknown chemotherapy agents. She was treated for another solid year and given less than a 30% chance of surviving the next 5 years. During that time, there was an article written in the local newspaper about Brianna. Officer Jim Seneca read the article, was touched and wanted to make a difference so he contacted the newspaper, then contacted me, then put together an amazing fundraiser for my daughter! He had started an organization called Cops Fighting Cancer and Brianna was lucky enough to be his first recipient! Anyone going through this ordeal knows what a financial, physical, mental and emotional struggle it is on everyone in the family! Due to the help we received from Cops Fighting Cancer, we were able to keep our house, pay many of the hospital bills, and try to lead a normal life! This organization helped reduce our stress and burdens tremendously!
Thanks to help from God, doctors and Cops Fighting Cancer, it is now 2009, Brianna is 9 years old and has beaten all odds!
